Research

  • My research main focuses are in epidemiologic, health economic and clinical studies on elderly in general and dementia in particular, with both Swedish and international collaborations. I am a member of the steering committee of the population-based project Swedish National study on Aging and Care (SNAC) and I was one of the research founders of the Swedish dementia registry SveDem.

I have several times worked as an expert for the Swedish national board of health and welfare and participated in its update of the Swedish guidelines for dementia care. I co-authored WHO’s report Dementia: a public health priority from 2012 and I am currently involved in WHO’s GDO project. I was one of the contributors to WHO´s report “The Global status report on the public response to dementia” in 2021. I have co-authored ADI´s World Alzheimer Reports 2010 and 2015 about global dementia epidemiology and costs, and I was the principal author of ADI’s 2018 report on global estimates of informal care time. I also contributed to World Alzheimer Reports 2021 and 2022.

I have participated and still participates in many EU-projects (e.g. ALCOVE, RightTimePlaceCare, ACTIFCARE, MOPEAD, PRODEMOS, MIND-AD, ADDITION, EURO-FINGERS, PROMINENT). I am one of the creators of the Resource Utilisation in Dementia (RUD) instrument, which is used worldwide in health economic research in dementia.
