The Department of Medicine, Solna is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The core activities of the Department of Medicine are clinical and undergraduate education for medical as well as biomedical students, post-graduate education including at present 200 registered PhD students, and research in different areas of biomedicine.

Department of Medicine, Solna has courses for students in the Medical program, Biomedicine and Medical Informatics. The department conducts research training in several fields of research within the field of medical science. Currently, we have about 200 students.

The Centre for Pharmacoepidemiology (CPE) was established in 2005, with the explicit purpose to create a centre of academic excellence in pharmacoepidemiology, to meet the demands from stakeholders in society and industry for expertise and consultation in this field. The centre, which is still evolving, has since its start met the growing demands, both nationally and internationally, for data on drug safety, drug utilization and rational drug use, including pharmacogenetics.
