Education in nursing
The division of nursing conducts undergraduate programmes for nurses as well as education for graduate diploma in specialist nursing. In addition, we offer master´s courses, single-subject courses and postgraduate programmes for doctoral students.
Karolinska Institutet strives to offer nursing education where research, education and clinic are integrated. The overall goal for the division of nursing is to develop care science in education and in research. The division of nursing wishes to act as an academic arena that takes part in the international development of care sciences in research and profession.
Each year, the division of Nursing has one thousand students in the nursing programs of which 300 students study the nursing education at online. Of which the specialized nursing program has 600 students at the year. Most of the specialized nursing program are offered as part-time studies and as distance learning programs, some of the programs are offered as campus studies and on full time bases. Almost half of the education within the nursing program is based on integrated practice learning (VIL). Our clinical skill training centers are locked in Health Care Center of Stockholm County Council (SLL) and within the municipality’s responsibility for care and nursing care. In collaboration between KI and SLL, there are several Academic Health Care Center (AVC) and an Academic Specialist Care Center where education and research is conducted in close cooperation. Furthermore students and teachers are offered opportunities for international exchanges.
Our education has a strong research link and an interprofessional profile and are partly implemented in modern digital environments and based on current pedagogy with focus on student-centered learning and flexibility.
Karolinska Institutet's nursing programme is also provided as a modified distance learning programme which means a combination of self study, found at the place of study and course location, online discussions, etc.
There are great opportunities within the nursing programme to do a period of your education abroad. To carry out your work-based training or study a theoretical course in another country is something that provides you with new experiences. To experience a different culture from the inside is evolving, interesting and instructive, even if everything is not always as expected.
Study abroad is not only about to improve your academic experiences, but it will also provide you with new insights and experiences that you will have benefit from in your future careers as well as in your life. It also allows you to have many interesting contacts and perhaps friends for life.
