Research

  • A major focus of my research has been on alternative models of maternity care for women at low medical risk, but also on women's experiences of childbirth. The postponement of childbirth to advanced maternal age is the most recent focus of the research. The publications are presented by subject as follows:

    - Alternative models of maternity care (midwife-led continuity of care models)

    - Women's experiences of childbirth (memory of childbirth and labour pain, pain relief)

    - Pregnancy and antenatal care (expectations, fetal screening, cildbirth education)

    - Postnatal care (early discharge and domiciliary care, hospital postnal care)

    - Women's physical and emotional wellbeing

    - Neonatal care (models of care)

    - Advanced maternal age (risk of fetal death, preterm birth, labour dystocia and anal sphincter tear)
