About me

Hello, I am delighted to be working with the CACTUS research group on my studies, which focus on the perceived access and ability to use everyday technologies by people living with and without dementia in Sweden and the UK.

I originally graduated from the University of Manchester and the Royal Northern College of Music. I then worked as a performer, teacher and project manager in the arts for more than 10 years where health became an increasing focus to my practice. This led me to retrain as an occupational therapist and I completed my masters at the University of Cumbria in 2016.

My community-centred career has focused on positive social change and creating tailored opportunities for people to participate in activities that are important to them. This has meant also overcoming barriers to participation – be that by securing funding, or building workforce capability and capacity, or developing networks and raising awareness among different stakeholders. This is in addition to designing, providing and evaluating accessible services.

I am proud to be a Marie Sklodowska Curie fellow funded through the Interdisciplinary Network for Dementia Using Current Technology (INDUCT). As technology changes and becomes ever more prevalent in society, my studies are investigating how technology acts as both a barrier and facilitator in daily life among people with dementia in the UK and Sweden. I have a particular interest in ensuring the involvement of local people in research and practice and in the rural context for participation.
