Research description

I am involved in the KASIP-study (Karolinska Athlete Screening Injury Prevention), aiming to understand injury occurrence and associated risk factors for injury, in Swedish adolescent elite athletes. A prospective cohort design is used to explore the injury burden in these athletes regarding injury type, severity, injury location, injury consequences, prevalence/incidence, recurrence, time to first injury as well as the prevalence of illness. The long term goal of this project is to reduce the risk, for adolescent elite athletes, to sustain injuries, recurrent injury, pain  and thereby enhance increased awareness, performance and health. Further on, a long term goal is to reduce health care costs.

Approximately 600 adolescent elite athletes in handball, athletics, cross-country skiing, orienteering, down-hill skiing, american football, wakeboard, bowling, cycling, golf, triathlon, canoeing, from more than 20 Swedish National Sports High Schools are enrolled in the study. The athletes are followed over 1-2 years.
