About me

  • Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedics at the Department of Clinical Science,
Intervention and Technology as of 1 July 2021. Primary position: Consultant
    at Karolinska University Hospital

Research

  • Margareta Hedström is an orthopaedic surgeon and researches hip fractures
    – a type of injury that affects a very large patient group. Many patients
never recover and are often unable to continue living at home, with the
    consequent loss of life quality.
Prof. Hedström has shown that rehabilitation is facilitated and the risk of
complications is reduced if the patient is operated within 24 hours. Her
large registry studies have made it clear that hip-fracture patients make up
a heterogeneous group and that surgical methods and aftercare need to be
    further individualised and differentiated.
Margareta Hedström is also engaged in clinical studies of patients with
arthrosis who have had knee and hip prosthetics. She is examining their
function and the patients’ satis- faction with their treatment and
comparing different types of intervention and prosthetics.
