About me

  • I am an Associate Professor, Occupational Therapist, Researcher, and Assistant Senior Lecturer. I defended my doctoral thesis at KI in 2011, titled:

  • Participation in Everyday Occupations Among Persons with Stroke in Iran: An Exploration of Perceived Participation, Associated Factors, and Lived Experience. My ongoing research focuses on participation in activities as a lifestyle factor and its role in promoting health and well-being. In my position as a lecturer, I serve as the International Academic Coordinator, overseeing the internationalisation of the programme and leading the international team within the division.

Research

  • With extensive experience in quantitative and qualitative methods, I have developed and evaluated several culturally adapted clinical tools, including the Occupational Gaps Questionnaire (OGQ) and the Impact on Participation and Autonomy (IPA).

I am an active member of research groups such as HELD (Health in Everyday Life for people with Neurological Disabilities) and NBN (Nordic Brain Network) at Karolinska Institutet, where I contribute to groundbreaking studies on dementia and stroke rehabilitation.

  • My research centres on promoting participation, health, and well-being in everyday life for individuals with neurological disabilities, including stroke and dementia and their significant others. My work focuses on promoting an active and balanced everyday life, health, and well-being for these populations, with a clear vision for the future. Currently, I lead several multidisciplinary projects, including “BeWELL”, a digital intervention program for informal caregivers, and “CONNECT”, which focuses on fostering social connectedness among persons with stroke. My work also includes collaboration on international research projects aimed at enhancing occupational balance and participation through innovative and family-centred care models.

To date, I have 30 original studies, 2 reviews, and 9 other publications including book chapters in English.

Teaching

  • I have over two decades of teaching experience at undergraduate, advanced, and postgraduate levels, both nationally and internationally, with a focus on evidence-based, student-centred education. I serve as the International Academic Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy programme, where I integrate internationalisation and intercultural competence into the curriculum. In addition to my role as International Academic Coordinator, I hold several teaching management roles such as a board member of the International Committee at the Department of NVS, a board member of the pedagogical group at the Department of NVS, team leader for teaching staff for semesters 1 to 3, and a board member of the Programme Advisory Board at the division. I am also a faculty member of the European Master of Occupational Therapy and a board member of its programme committee within the same programme.

I am responsible for leading and teaching courses in occupational therapy, scientific methods, and rehabilitation. I also mentor postdoctoral researchers and new university teachers, supporting them in the early stages of their academic and teaching careers. Additionally, I have experience of teaching across disciplines, including physiotherapy, nursing, psychology, and neuroscience.

I have completed 18.0 credits of formal education in higher education pedagogy, equivalent to 12 weeks of full-time study in higher education.
