About me

  • I am a Team leader in the Systems Virology lab in the Division of Clinical Microbiology in the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

My team studies the role of the innate immune system in acute and chronic inflammatory diseases in children and adults.

I completed my PhD in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) and then moved to Sweden to work as a post-doc at the Center for Infectious Medicine in the Department of Medicine Huddinge, in collaboration with the Department of Women’s and Children’s health in Karolinska Institute. During my post-doc, I studied the involvement of myeloid cells in the pathogenesis of granuloma diseases, such as Langerhans cell histiocytosis and Crohn’s disease. My research resulted in the identification of several disease-associated deregulated molecular and cellular processes and contributed to new tools for diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of the patients. I became an Assistant Professor in 2015 and a team leader in 2022. In June 2024 I moved to the Department of Laboratory Medicine and I am leading a team in the Systems Virology lab, studying the role of the innate immune system in acute and chronic inflammatory diseases in children and adults, with focus on psoriasis, Langerhans cell histiocytosis and viral infections.
