About me

  • I am an Assistant Professor at the NVS department, in the Division of Neurogeriatrics.
My main interest is to unravel the mechanisms affecting synaptic networks that condition cognitive decline in the early progression of neurodegenerative diseases. My goal is to evaluate basic pathogenesis and pharmacological interventions in psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases using ex vivo electrophysiological approaches in combination with transcriptomic, morphological, and behavioral techniques in animal models.
*2022- 2023:* Postdoctoral Researcher at Klas Blomgren's Lab / KBH.
    Karolinska Institute
*2018- 2022:* Postdoctoral Researcher at Andre Fisahn's Lab / NVS. Karolinska
    Institutet
*2015- 2018:* PhD thesis at Fidel De La Cruz's lab / National School of Biological Sciences. Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) (Mexico).
*2016:* Academic visit at Antonio Rodriguez-Moreno's Lab. Universidad Pablo
    de Olavide (UPO) (Spain).
*2015:* Academic visit at Eliezer Masliah's Lab. University of California,
    San Diego (UCSD) (USA).
*2014:* Academic visit at Antonio Rodriguez-Moreno's Lab. Universidad Pablo
    de Olavide (UPO) (Spain).
*2013- 2015:* Master thesis at Gonzalo Flores' Lab / Institute of Physiology.
Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico).
*2012:* Bachelor thesis at Gonzalo Flores' Lab / Institute of Physiology.
Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico).

Research

  • My research is focused on the synaptic interactions of neuronal cell types with microglial cells and how these interactions are affected by neurodegenerative diseases. In the lab, we use animal models of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and brain irradiation to decipher these fundamental questions.
