About me

  • I am an Assistant Professor and Docent at the Division of Occupational Therapy and a member of the Pedagogical Academy at KI. I also work internationally as a faculty member of the European Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, the Dalhousie University Master of Science in Occupational Science, and as Associate Editor of the Journal of Occupational Science. I am also a registered occupational therapist in Chile and Sweden with work experience in both countries.

Keywords: Critical qualitative health research, health equity and promotion, and transformative education/practice

Research

  • My research lies within critical qualitative health research, health equity and promotion, including transformative education and training. I apply transformative critical theory, critical reflexivity, and dialogical methods to enact possibilities for action based on different types of knowledge and stakeholder perspectives. My doctoral thesis forwards a critical dialogical approach to promote values such as transparency, partnership, and democratization in the research process.

Examples of recent research collaborations include developing dialogue support for social services' risk assessment of intimate partner violence against people with cognitive disabilities (collaboration with Örebro University), exploring the conceptualization and use of critical reflexivity by occupational therapy teachers worldwide (collaboration with Griffith University in Australia), and evaluating family-based activities in low socio-economic status areas in Stockholm (collaboration with GIH and the Department of Nursing at KI).

Teaching

  • The core of my research in teaching is health professional education, particularly transformative learning, professional reasoning, and critical reflexivity. I supervise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. I teach within (critical) occupational science, epistemological foundations of qualitative research, and critical social theory. My focus on the internationalization of the curriculum follows equity, decolonization, and anti-racism perspectives.
