About me

  • I am employed as a lecturer in medical microbiology at the department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell biology (MTC) where I work full-time with teaching. Born and raised in Kokkola, Finland. After mandatory military service I arrived at Karolinska Institutet to study at the bachelor's programme in biomedicine, from which I graduated in 2013. Following this I obtained a master's degree in infectionbiology from Uppsala University in 2015. My Ph.D. studies were completed in 2021 at Karolinska Institutet supervised by Professor Mikael Rhen. My Ph.D. thesis was on the genetic determinants involved in antibiotic resistance and pathogenesis of Salmonella enterica. Parallell to my Ph.D. studies I completed my degree to become a high school teacher in 2019 which makes me eligible to teach biology, geography, and natural sciences in high schools.

Teaching

  • I am the course responsible for the the course "Basic Science 6: Microbiology, Infection, and Immunology" in the medical programme and the study director for the "Summer research school for high school students".

As a teacher I also feature in the courses Basic Science 1, Basic Science 5, and Medical diagnostics integrated with basic science in the medical programme. In the biomedical programme I feature as a teacher in the course "Immunology and Microbiology".
