About me

  • I received my BSc in Pharmacy from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Spain, and completed my PhD in Neuropharmacology at the same institution in 2025. During my doctoral studies in the LaNCE-Neuropharmacology Group, under the supervision of Cristina Miguélez, my research focused on noradrenergic dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease, particularly the role of the locus coeruleus in the prodromal stages of the disease. I also completed a research stay at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where I gained experience investigating the role of the locus coeruleus in memory and sleep.

I joined Karolinska Institutet as a postdoctoral researcher to continue my research in Parkinson’s disease while expanding my focus towards the neural circuits underlying motor dysfunction. I first joined the laboratory of Anders Borgkvist, where I focused on basal ganglia circuits and synaptic physiology in Parkinson’s disease. I have now moved to the laboratory of Yvonne Johansson, where I investigate the involvement of dopamine circuits in Parkinson’s disease using electrophysiology, fiber photometry and imaging approaches.
