About me

  • John Axelsson is an associate professor at Karolinska Institutet where he leads a research group in the interdisciplinary field of sleep, cognition and
health. With his research he aims to increase the knowledge and awareness of how sleep and sickness in the rapidly developing 24 hour society affects immune functioning and cognitive processes. The research questions he find most intriguing, and tries to answer, include: Can our body and brain adapt to long-term sleep loss? Can more sleep speed up recovery when we are sick? How does the brain work when we are sick? Do humans have a sickness avoidance system and how does it work? How fast does the brain wake up from sleep?
