About me

  • My research interests cover several areas in toxicology, toxicokinetics and health risk assessment, all the way from indoor air quality over work place exposure to chemical disasters and from experimental studies in vitro with Zebrafish embryos and cell cultures to studies in vivo with human volunteers. Much focus is on experimental studies and computer modeling of dermal and inhalation exposures and on acute effects of inhaled chemicals. For example, we were the first to show that skin penetration of certain organic solvents (glycol ethers) increases following dissolution in water and that the uptake of vapors of these solvents is far higher than that via inhalation uptake.

I have served in various expert groups, including the Swedish Criteria Group for OELs (vice chair), the EU SCOEL committee (vice chair), the EU-LCI working group and the AEGL committee. Since 1999, I chair the Nordic Expert Group for Criteria Documentation of Health Risks from Chemicals (NEG).

I received a PhD in toxicology at Karolinska Institutet 1988 and became professor of occupational toxicology and risk assessment at the same institute 1999.
