My research focuses on early detection and prevention of late-life cognitive impairment, Alzheimer´s disease and dementia via multidomain interventions. I am interested in biological aspects on age-related cognitive impairment, with focus on blood-based markers of neurodegeneration, inflammation, oxidative/nitrosative stress, lipid and glucose metabolism. I also work on factors that can mediate the clinical expression of neuropathology and related biomarkers. From a clinical trial perspective my focus in on modifiable mediators such as mental stimulation.
I am part of the Nordic Brain Network, an international and multidisciplinary research group and collaborative forum lead by Prof. Miia Kivipelto.
I am the Executive Director of the World-Wide FINGERS Global Scientific Coordinating Center at the FINGERS Brain Health Institute, providing clinical coordination to the World-Wide FINGERS global Network of multidomain trials for dementia risk reduction and prevention.
