About me

  • I have been working as a midwife since 1988, and my professional experience as a midwife is primarily focused on maternal health care and contraception. My doctoral studies at the Karolinska Institute spanned from 2010 to 2014. I also hold a master's degree in nursing from the year 2000, along with a midwifery degree from 1988 and a nursing degree from 1985.

In my role as a lecturer in reproductive health, I teach at the midwifery program, and my research has resulted in the publication of 30 scientific articles. Furthermore, I have participated as a member in assessment committees for doctoral theses and licentiate theses, and I am engaged as an expert for "Mamma till mamma, " an organization with the aim of preventing mental health issues arising during pregnancy.

I have served as the chairperson for Nordic Marce (Society for Perinatal Mental Health) and subsequently as a board member for a total of 6 years. Currently, I am a board member for the Swedish Midwives Association. I have numerous international collaborations, including with Attica University in Athens.

Research

  • My dissertation comprised both qualitative and quantitative methods with the aim of exploring the experiences and opinions of parents and midwives regarding group maternity care. Following the dissertation, I have continued researching group maternity care, specifically focusing on Somali women. In this project, I served as a co-supervisor for a doctoral student who successfully defended their thesis in 2023. Another doctoral student, whom I also supervised and who has completed their doctoral project, investigated mental health issues among women in China.

Currently, I am engaged in a research project on menstrual health and women who have undergone genital mutilation, in collaboration with the Swedish Public Health Agency. Additionally, I am involved in a project focusing on menopause and women's experiences.

My second research focus is on preventing mental health issues in new parents. I am the project leader for research on support for fathers, specifically "telephone peer support for fathers." We are investigating whether peer support can prevent mental health issues and enhance bonding with children. Furthermore, I am part of a three-year project supporting fathers in separation situations, in collaboration with the organization MÄN.

Teaching

  • I have been a part of the midwifery program since 2005 and have extensive experience ranging from being a lecturer and course leader to acting as an examiner within the program, as well as for independent courses and commissioned education. My experience covers various aspects of the program, and currently, I am the course leader for the master course where I implement peer learning.

I supervise master's theses, and several of these have resulted in scientific publications. Furthermore, I have close collaborations with various authorities and have worked with the Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU).
