About me
- I am a licensed clinical psychologist and a researcher, and I have worked with eating disorders since 2009. I am currently the project manager for a clinical treatment study where we intend to evaluate a CBT programme (the compuLsive Exercise Activity theraPy – LEAP) designed to target compulsive exercise in eating disorders. The project is a collaboration with four Swedish eating-disorder specialist units.
I am also the project manager for the Swedish part of the global Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative (EDGI) study. The purpose of EDGI is to increase our knowledge about how genes and environmental factors affect the risk of developing eating disorders. Further, I am the chairman of the patient organisation Frisk & - Fri: Riksföreningen mot ätstörningar.
My education:
2011-2017: PhD, Psychiatry. Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Neuroscience, Sweden.
2007-2009: Psychologist programme (supplementary courses). Uppsala University, Sweden.
2005-2007: Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology. University of Roehampton, UK.
2002-2005: Psychology, BSc (Hons). University of Surrey, UK.
Research
- I have studied how self-image (how individuals treat themselves) can be linked to eating disorders in different diagnostic groups, age groups and genders, and I have also studied whether eating disorders can be understood from an interpersonal and attachment perspective. Another part of my research focuses compulsive exercise as a symptom of eating disorder. I have also worked with the youth version of the Eating Disorders Examination Questionnaire.
In addition to the studies for which I am currently the project manager, I am also involved in a study that aims to evaluate the effects of an online prevention program aiming to increase knowledge and awareness about eating disorders in coaches and trainers in community and recreational sports. I am also involved in a study focusing the effects of the pandemic for people with eating disorders.
