Bárbara Avelar Pereira
About me
Bárbara is an Assistant Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience at the Aging Research Center (ARC), Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences, and Society. She completed her PhD at Karolinska Institutet and postdoctoral training at Stanford University School of Medicine. In her research, she uses multimodal approaches to predict and characterize patterns of cognitive decline in healthy and pathological aging, with special focus on Alzheimer’s disease. Past and current projects combine structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), cerebrospinal fluid, and genetics data to better understand the neural mechanisms underlying age-related decline in cognition.
