About me

  • I am the head of the division of Audiology and the Program Director for the Audiology Study Program. I am also the Deputy Director of Undergraduate Education at CLINTEC. I have been a licensed audiologist since 2001 and completed my PhD in otorhinolaryngology and audiology in 2006.

Research

  • My doctoral thesis focused on hereditary hearing impairments and how they interact with auditory stress factors such as noise, ototoxic medications, and ageing. This was studied using an animal model. After completing my PhD, I continued this line of research but instead using human material, specifically twins. The project is a longitudinal study with a follow‑up period of approximately 20 years. The project also included the heritability of tinnitus and how lifestyle factors and occupational exposures (noise and solvents) influence hearing development. I have also studied how the work environment of factory workers in Mexico affects hearing. In addition, I have contributed to interview studies involving individuals with deafblindness, exploring how they experience their dual impairments in everyday life and what support they feel they need. This work also resulted in a book chapter.

Teaching

  • I am deeply interested in education and have been teaching in the Audiology Program since 2007. In my role as Program Director, I am responsible for ensuring that the quality of the program remains high and that newly graduated audiologists are well prepared for their future profession. Educating audiologists—and thereby contributing to a highly important societal function in Sweden—feels truly meaningful.
