About me

  • MD, PhD, Otosurgeon and Senior consultant at Karolinska University Hospital,  Head of the SweChole research team and a member of SwedEar quality registry research team and SCAPA research team.

Research

  • My research field covers Ear diseases and Hearing.

I am the PI for the SweChole project, a project with the aim to increase the knowledge in Cholesteatoma disease via national epidemiologic register studies combined with local clinical and preclinical studies. The aim is to find risk factors, increase knowledge regarding the genetic and biological background, complications, the effect of comorbidities such as Turner syndrome, patient satisfaction and improve the perioperative and anesthetic care. At the moment, we have two PhD students within this project, Agnes Modée Borgström, MD, and Mikolaj Stachurski, MD.

As a member of the SwedEar research team, I am involved in research regarding Ear surgery based on data from the National Quality Register, SwedEar. In 2025 the register has almost 14 000 entries of unique Ear surgeries ranging from Myringoplasty to Cholesteatoma including pre-, peri- and postoperative factors and PROM questionnaire. One PhD student, Sara Olaison, MD, is involved in studies regarding Ossiculoplasty.

Together with the SCAPA-research group I am also researching hearing and outcomes after cochlear implantation in both children and adults with a special interest in malformed cochlea.

Teaching

  • I teach regularly on pre- and postgraduate levels and is a clinincal teacher in regard to ear diseases and ear surgery for interns, residents and junior ear surgeons.
