Per Anders Konrad Gustafsson

Anders Gustafsson, is a Professor of Periodontology at the Department of Dental Medicine. He earned his dental and doctoral degrees at Karolinska Institutet, and was appointed professor in 2005 when he also became head of the unit for Periodontology and Dental Hygiene.

Anders Gustafsson's main research focus is on the pathogenesis of periodontitis and the association between periodontitis and systemic diseases, primarily cardiovascular disease and diabetes. He has authored more than 120 scientific articles within the fields of periodontology and inflammation. Professor Gustafsson has been teaching undergraduate students in the dental and dental hygiene programmes for more than 35 years and has supervised numerous undergraduate, masters and PhD students.

Between the years 2008 and 2011, Anders Gustafsson was Vice-Dean of Doctoral Education. In January 2012 he was appointed Dean of Doctoral Education, in July 2016 he became Dean of Research and in January 2019 Vice-president for Research, from February 2017 until February 2023 was Anders the Vice President of Karolinska Institutet.
