Abinaya Priya Venkataraman

I am a Senior Lecturer and Docent in Optometry at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, and serve as Assistant Programme Director for the Optometry Programme. My work combines academic leadership, teaching, research, and doctoral supervision within vision science and clinical optometry.

My research focuses on visual optics, ocular imaging, and quantitative assessment of ocular structures. I am particularly interested in structure–function relationships in eye diseases. Current research projects include studies of Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, age-related macular degeneration, and keratoconus, and I am involved in the supervision of doctoral research in these areas.

I am actively involved in teaching within the Optometry Program at Karolinska Institutet. As Assistant Programme Director, I provide academic leadership in program development, curriculum planning, and quality assurance. I also serve as course leader and examiner for both undergraduate and master’s theses.
