Programmes in Biomedicine and Moleqular techniques in Life Science

The programmes consists of courses aiming to give a solid education in Biomedicine and Molecular techniques in Life Science.

Biomedicin student

Bachelor's programme in Biomedicine

This programme gives you extensive knowledge of the biology and pathology of the human body with understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying major global diseases, e.g. cancer, cardiovascular diseases, allergies, infections and dementia, and also knowledge of their diagnosis and treatment.

You will be trained in an active research environment and have contact with the front-line of biomedical and clinically oriented research through lectures, seminars, laboratory practices and projects. As biomedicine is an international subject and has an international work arena students are encouraged to study part of the programme at one of our international partner universities.

Many Bachelor´s students, with their solid base in biomedicine, continue into our master´s programmes in biomedicine, toxicology or bioentrepreneurship from which they carry on into research in academia or industry or into management in the life science sector.

Contribution by the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition

The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition is contributing to the Bachelo'rs programme in Biomedicine with one course during Semester 2, namely:

Master's programme in Biomedicine

The Master's Programme in Biomedicine is a natural education to follow an achieved BSc in the biomedical field.

The programme advances your knowledge in the broad and expanding fields of biomedicine and molecular medicine, aiming to contribute to improved human health. The Bologna Declaration in higher education throughout Europe is implemented, giving a student-centred education with an outcome-based curriculum.

The programme is developed by experienced scientists and is based on work done in the research laboratories at Karolinska Institutet.

It consists of compulsory taught components, large proportions of individual projects including a degree project and advanced elective courses. There are also opportunities for exchange studies.

Contribution by the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition

The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition is contributing to the Master's programme in Biomedicine with four courses and the Degree Project during Semester 1-4, namely:

Semester 1

Semester 2

Semester 3

Semester 4

Master's programme in Molecular techniques in Life Science

The programme is a unique collaboration between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University, in the environment of Science for Life Laboratory, Stockholm.

This programme will prepare students for a professional research career in life science, with particular focus on molecular techniques for disease therapies and diagnostic tools, coupled with substantial training in data analysis (bioinformatics and programming).

The programme consists of courses aiming to give a solid education in a combination of molecular biology, biotechnology and medicine.

Contribution by the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition

The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition is contributing to the Master's programme in Molecular techniques in Life Science with one course during Semester 1, namely:

and the Degree Project (30 credits) in semester 4.
