FyFa celebrates 75 years
The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology celebrated its 75th anniversary this year. The celebration contains several different activities, including a historical publication and the commemoration of the anniversary itself on 23 April.
On 23 April 1949, the departments of physiology and pharmacology on the Solna campus were inaugurated by the then Crown Prince, later King Gustav VI Adolf.
“As the first departments to move into the campus, we were pioneers and innovators even then. Since then, we continue to innovate and improve, drawing on the strong roots of our history. Since 1993 we are a single department, since 2018 our base is our premises in Biomedicum in Solna, and since 75 years ago our endeavour is to elevate the subjects of physiology and pharmacology," says Head of Department Sophie Erhardt.
Celebrating in many ways
The anniversary year will offer a variety of celebrations. The actual anniversary on 23 April, was a full day held for invited guests and representatives from the department, but even for those who were not there, the anniversary will be marked in various ways, for example in Biomedicum and on the website. Furthermore, a new publication on the history of FyFa will be published shortly.

The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, FyFa, has a history that goes way back to the 19th century. Pioneering research, a Nobel prize and mergers of departments are all landmarks throughout history.

We are looking for the most promising ideas that can be developed into patentable applications in science or medicine. Do you have ideas for a new drug? A new analytical tool? A diagnostic procedure? Or something else? Come and pitch your idea at the FyFa 75 year anniversary and compete for a cash prize/investment and help from KI innovations to develop the product. A distinguished panel of Dragons will decide the winner(s).
