Genes and Alcohol

This sib-pair study initiated in 1993 includes 300 Swedish families (2 siblings and at least one parent); in total 820 subjects (570 males and 250 females). All subjects were interviewed in their native environment by a research nurse, and the Scientific Content Analysis Technique (SCAN-interviews) was used to validate alcohol dependence. DNA extracted from peripheral blood samples was prepared within 48 h after blood sample collection [1].
