Abstract
The lecture illustrated the last years dramatic improvement in invasive stroke treatment and also described different strategies for achieving super-selective delivery of cells and and substances and sampling via the endovascular route.
Biography
Staffan Holmin is professor of clinical neuroimaging and head of imaging and physiology at Karolinska Institutet. He is also consultant in endovascular neurointervention and R&D-responsible at the department of neuroradiology at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. Prof Holmin leads a research group in neuroradiology and vascular radiology working on clinical and experimental projects in stroke management and endovascular technique development with applications aimed for for the central nervous system and other organ systems. He is responsible for the imaging research facilities in the planning of the new Karolinska Hospital and is heading the center for imaging research (CIR) at Karolinska. After graduating with a medical degree from Karolinska Institute in 1995, Prof Holmin obtained his doctoral degree in 1997 and his physician certification from the same institution in 1999. In 2006, he did a post-doc and fellowship training at Bicêtre Hospital in Paris, France under the supervision of Prof Pierre Lasjaunias. In 2005, he passed the Neurosurgery Swedish and European specialist examinations and two years later the Neuroradiology Swedish Specialist examination. Prof Holmin is the main inventor of an endovascular device for trans-vessel wall passage (Extroducer). At the European Congress of Radiology in Vienna 2016, Prof Holmin presented the Sven-Ivar Seldinger Honorary Lecture and has been keynote lecturer at several international conferences.
