About CSS
Center for Social Sustainability (CSS) was established at Karolinska Institutet in 2013 by a group of engaged researchers to fill in the gap on how inner individual factors are linked to group and societal sustainability, including the roles of empathy, compassion, trust and altruism in building sustainable systems in health care and education.
Since then, the focus has widened to include:
- human-animal-nature relations and sustainability (One Health)
- music
- soundscapes and health
- disaster-related disorders
- kindness and wisdom
Purpose
The purpose of CSS is to map ongoing research in social sustainability, initiate and support research projects and identify factors preventing and enhancing collaboration within organisations and society. It also aims to build national and international networks to co-create projects within the areas of empathy, compassion, trust and altruism.
Mission
The mission of CSS is to continue developing the CSS platform for researchers, educators and practitioners from different disciplines, and serve as a springboard for action-oriented and system-building practices.
Collaboration
CSS is carrying out research projects on social sustainability with collaborators such as:
- Lund University
- Royal College of Music in Stockholm
- Royal College of Technology
- Stockholm school of Economics
