About me

  • I came to Stockholm from the snowy valleys of Siberia, where I graduated from Novosibirsk State University in 2017 with a degree in biomedical physics. In 2023, I completed my PhD at Karolinska Institutet, followed by a postdoctoral position in the Baranello lab until 2025. I am currently a Research Specialist, focusing on the molecular mechanisms by which topoisomerases regulate transcription.

Together, my PhD and postdoctoral work established new links between DNA topology, transcriptional control, mitotic memory, and oncogene‑driven genome regulation, while identifying mechanistically grounded vulnerabilities that can be leveraged in cancer therapy.

I have a strong interest in developing genomic and biochemical methods. I co‑developed CAD‑seq, a high‑throughput technique that selectively captures topoisomerase cleavage complexes to map TOP activity genome‑wide (Kuzin et al., STAR Protocols 2022). We have applied CAD‑seq to study topoisomerase function during mitosis (Wiegard et al., Mol Cell 2021) and to reveal how MYC organizes TOP1 and TOP2 into a transcription‑associated “topoisome” complex (Das et al., Mol Cell 2022). I also contributed to investigating how combinations of topoisomerase and transcription inhibitors affect tumor biology, including alternative splicing and the selective repression of long genes in colorectal cancer PDX models (Cameron et al., Sci Adv 2023).

In my current role, I am aiming to test the hypothesis of regulatory supercoiling “sinks” with enriched TOP2A activity. I am further optimizing CAD‑seq to precisely define TOP2A sites of action and patterns of transcription‑induced supercoiling across the genome.

I particularly enjoy the experimental aspects of research and am continuously expanding my expertise in bioinformatics and sequencing‑based data analysis.
