About me

  • I am a researcher at the Global and Sexual Health (GloSH) Research Group, Department of Global Public Health, Karolinska Institutet as well as Clinical Epidemiology Unit, Department of Medicine, Solna, Karolinska Institutet and Division of Women's Health, Department of Obstetrics, Karolinska University Hospital. I am also a resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Karolinska University Hospital.

My research integrates large-scale cohort studies and clinical trials to improve the understanding in maternal and newborn health with special emphasis on malnutrition, lifestyle-related risk factors, and both noncommunicable (NCD) and infectious diseases as well as clinical management of pregnancy-related health issues. I have been involved in multiple projects with long-standing collaborations in HIV and NCD research, particularly those addressing methodological challenges in health systems research in resource-limited settings. This includes a prospective cohort study with ongoing data collection to understand the role of anemia during pregnancy and the risk of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and the implementation of PPH bundle to reduce severe complications due to bleeding in Liberia. I am also involved in a project on the management and critical care of preeclampsia in Indonesia and the prevention of mother-to-child-transmission of HIV in Kenya. I also have an ongoing collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School working with randomized controlled trials testing vitamin and mineral supplementation for various health outcomes.
