Stefan Rune, MD, Ass. Senior Consultant Pediatrics
Medical Supervisor for Child Protection Team | Doctoral Candidate in Physical Child Abuse
Stefan Rune is a seasoned pediatrician specializing in child protection, particularly in cases of physical abuse. With over a decade of experience, he leads the Child Protection Team at Karolinska University Hospital. Currently pursuing a PhD in Physical Child Abuse, Dr. Rune's work involves providing evidential support in court cases. He is also actively involved in continuous education on child abuse, both locally and nationally. Dr Rune still active in Emergency Pediatrics is an instructor in simulation training a pediatric CPR and mentors future pediatric specialists.
With a passion for child welfare, Dr. Rune combines his medical expertise with advocacy to protect vulnerable children and improve understanding of child abuse within the medical community.
Research
Stefan Rune is currently runing the doctoral project: Understanding the scope of child physical abuse in Sweden.
This project aims to evaluate how the best interests of the child are prioritized throughout the judicial process, especially during forensic examinations and reporting. By enhancing understanding, it seeks to inform decision-making when children are involved in legal proceedings.
