About me

  • I am a consultant plastic surgeon at Karolinska University Hospital and a PhD candidate. My clinical work focuses on reconstructive plastic surgery, microsurgery, head and neck reconstruction, complex wounds, and the management of postoperative complications.

My research focuses on outcomes after reconstructive surgery, clinical risk prediction, patient-reported quality of life, donor-site morbidity, and the healthcare burden associated with complications after cosmetic surgery. A major part of my work concerns artificial intelligence in plastic and reconstructive surgery. This includes machine learning for complication prediction, explainable AI for clinical risk assessment, large language models for patient counselling, AI-supported triage, burn assessment, free flap monitoring, and decision support for flap re-exploration and salvage. I am particularly interested in how AI tools perform compared with clinicians, how their recommendations should be interpreted, and how they might support safer and more consistent surgical care.

I also study head and neck reconstruction, microsurgery, patient-reported outcomes, donor-site morbidity, surgical complications, healthcare costs, and outcomes after cosmetic surgery.
