About me

  • Sara was born and raised in Serbia until 2008 when she moved to Slovenia to pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) high school program. After successfully completing the program, she entered medical school and graduated at the top of her class in 2016. Continuing her academic journey, she secured a spot in the gastroenterology residency at the University Medical Center Maribor. In 2023, she successfully passed the European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH) as well as the Slovenian specialty exam.

    Currently, she serves as a specialist in gastroenterology in Slovenia. Her clinical responsibilities encompass endoscopy, general gastroenterology, IBD, inpatient, and outpatient services. In the realm of research, her interests are centered around pancreatic disorders, including autoimmune pancreatitis, fatty pancreas, chronic pancreatitis, post-pancreatitis diabetes mellitus, cystic neoplasms of the pancreas, and pancreatic cancer.

    Beyond her medical career, Sara is a former member of the Serbian national fencing team and a passionate singer.

Research

  • Autoimmune pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, fatty pancreas, acute pancreatitis, cystic neoplasms of pancreas. Outside of pancreatology, I am mostly interested in IBD and endoscopy.

Teaching

  • Teaching assistant at Faculty of Medicine University of Maribor, Internal Medicine Course (propaedeutics in internal medicine in 3rd and 6th year).
