About me

  • I am a Tumor Biologist and Scientific Lead at the International Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Reference Center, Karolinska Institutet.

My research focuses on HPV-associated cancers, leveraging molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, and machine learning to advance cancer prevention and screening.

I oversee the Global HPV LabNet, a worldwide network of national HPV reference laboratories dedicated to global standardization and quality assurance in HPV diagnostics.

I coordinate key initiatives, including Sweden's cervical cancer elimination project, and lead pioneering efforts such as self-sampling programs in conflict-affected regions like Ukraine.

Research

  • Molecular virology, machine learning, microbiome, cancer screening, diagnostics.

Teaching

  • Competence:
Infections in cancer. I have a strong foundation in tumor biology, genomics, molecular diagnostics, microbiology and pharmacology. These areas form the basis of my teaching and research, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and applied sciences within these fields.

    Current Teaching Activity:
I have completed extensive pedagogy training for teaching at the graduate level. My teaching experience spans undergraduate and graduate levels, covering Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in molecular diagnostics, microbiology, genomics, and antiviral drugs. At Karolinska Institutet (KI), I teach for both the Biomedical and Medical programs and I have contributed to several other courses at Master level. Internationally, I also engage in teaching activities.

In terms of specific roles, I mostly teach as lecturer, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) tutor, and seminar tutor. Additionally, I supervise Biomedical Bachelor’s degree projects at KI and I am currently supervising five PhD students.

In my role as the Scientific Lead of the International HPV Reference Center, I am responsible for extending my teaching reach globally, which has recently included developing an online platform and incorporating interactive online teaching modules (https://www.hpvcenter.se/e-learning-resources/). This online teaching initiative aims to broaden the accessibility and impact of educational resources in HPV-related research and diagnostics.
