About me

  • I received my PhD training in medical biology from the Department of Pathology, University Medical Center Utrecht, and the Utrecht University, in The Netherlands. I obtained my doctoral degree in 2012 on how cytotoxic lymphocytes can control human cytomegalovirus infections.

In 2017, I joined the group of Anders Sönnerborg where I focused on the immunological response towards HIV-1 infections. In 2023, I became Team Leader for "Team Viral immunopathogenesis".

    Education:
2007 - 2012 *PhD degree in Life Sciences, *University Medical Center Utrecht & Utrecht University, The Netherlands (/Fields of expertise: Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular/Cell Biology)/
2005 - 2007 *MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences, *Utrecht University, The Netherlands
2002 - 2005 *BSc degree in Biomedical Sciences, *Utrecht University, The Netherlands

Research

  • In our team, our main research interests are understanding host-virus interactions, how cytotoxic lymphocytes target virus-infected cells, and to identify mechanisms to exploit or boost their antiviral responses towards HIV-1 infection. We are currently investigating how we can utilize NK cells in a shock-and-kill strategy against HIV-1 infections.
