About me

  • Peter Stenvinkel is Professor and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Renal Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

    He has published >730 original papers and reviews, as well as >50 book chapters on various aspects of inflammation, wasting, and metabolism in patients with chronic kidney disease. His Hirsch index is 140, and his work has been cited >80, 000 times.

    He has delivered >600 invited lectures at international meetings and congresses across approximately 30 countries.

    Peter Stenvinkel has served as a council member of the International Society of Nephrology (since 2007) and of the ERA-EDTA (2007–2010). He is an Editor of the Journal of Internal Medicine and served as Editor-in-Chief of NDT-E from 2010 to 2013. He was named an honorary member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology in 2010 and of the Polish Society of Nephrology in 2012.

    He is the President of the Swedish Society of Nephrology 2026-27.

    In 2025, he published the popular science book ”Learning from Nature – The Power of Biological Intelligence”.
