Parvin Tavakol Olofsson

I am a radiographer and currently serve as Programme Director, Unit Manager, and Lecturer at the Unit of Radiography, Karolinska Institutet. My main focus is educational development and strengthening the link between education, research, and clinical practice.
I obtained my degree as a registered nurse with a specialization in diagnostic radiology in 2001, a master’s degree in Imaging and Functional Diagnostics in 2007, a Licentiate degree in 2012, and a PhD in 2016.
Between 2007 and 2016, I worked as a Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet with responsibilities for teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. From 2017 to 2022, I served as a Senior policy advisor for the profession of Radiographers at the Swedish Association of Health Professionals, contributing to national and European initiatives on professional development, workforce planning, and specialist education.
Since 2022, I have returned to the Unit of Radiography at Karolinska Institutet, combining teaching with leadership responsibilities.

My doctoral thesis focuses on the consequences of outsourcing referrals for radiological examinations. The study aimed to investigate and describe the outsourcing of radiological examinations from a university hospital from cost, time-efficiency, patient, and referrer perspectives.

I am particularly interested in research on the radiography profession and education and in developing these areas to meet evolving healthcare needs and future competency requirements.

I teach courses in Introduction to Radiography, Professional Development, Emergency and Disaster Medicine, as well as Scientific Theory and Methods. I also supervise theses at both undergraduate and master's levels.
