Olle Ringdén

I was a student at KI autumn1963 , got my MD 1970’PhD 1976 at KI, ”Activation of human lymphocyte subpopulations”.Specialist in Surgery 1982 and clinical Immunology 1986.Postdoc at the Fred Hutchison cancer center, Seattle 1978-1979.Professor Transplantation Biology Gothenburg 1989 and KI in Transplantation Immunology.Created Center for Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation at Huddinge hospital and was director 1999-2003.medical director 2003-2011.Distinguished professor KI 2011-2015(Rated among top 10).

Founder Nordic bone marrow transplantation group, secretary 1983-1999, chair 2007-12.Held several positions in International BMT Registry since 1996, chairman 2003-2004.general secretary Nordic expert  committee  in transplantation 1986-1999.President Correction of Genetic Disease by Transplantation 1996-1998.

Several Awards :examples , Mortimer Bortin Award 2001, The van Bekkum Award 2006, Olle Ringden laboratory honoured by KI 2012, The Indian prize in Transplantation 2013, Shejk Hamdan Award, Dubai 2014, Milwaukee and Munich  Awards 2018.

Hematopoetic cell transplantation (HCT).Built a research lab and a clinical unit at Huddinge. Collaboration with CIBMTR and European group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT)Prospective clinical trials , registry studies and basic immunology work.Have done27 first in the world medical procedures.Examples; cure of Gaucher disease, Adult Matachromatic Leukodystrophy  and Langerhans cell histiocytosis by HCT, Cure of lifethreatening graft vs host disease (GVHD) by Mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs) and later by decidua stromal cells (DSCs).Cure of colonperforation, hemorrhagic cystitis  and pneumomediastinum by MSCs.Cure of hemorrhagic cystistis, ARDS and polyneuropathy by DSCs.Cure of pancreatic cancer(>20 year survival)following radical surgery and HCT.

Ongoing research, mechanisms of immunomodulation by DSCs.To establish DSCs as clinical therapy.Registry studies in HCT.

I have written 957 scientific articles and am cited >66000 times with a  H-index of 122.Ranked among the top at KI.

Responsible for the course in Surgery at Serafimerhospital 1971-1973 and at Huddinge 1974-1978.

I have tutored 63 PhD dissertations and 17 post docs at KI.I was awarded the first Ulrica Broome prize as best supervisor at KI 2006.I have given a lot of lectures at KI and other universities all over the world and invited to many conferences etc.I have arranged 17 major international meetings(3 Nobel conferences).
