About me

  • Nina Viberg is an Associate Professor at the Department of Global Public Health and the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH) which is a collaboration between KI and Makerere University (Mak) in Kampala. She has coordinated several large collaboration projects including SDGCap "Building capacity for sustainable development in fragile states" with partners at Mak Uganda, Benadir University in Mogadishu, Somalia, and University of Kinshasa, School of Public Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Further Nina Viberg coordinates a global health diplomacy network and leads the collaboration project "Health Bridge - Towards a healthier and safer region - Bridging the Baltic Sea Region and Eastern Europe in a health diplomacy network".  

    With innovative pedagogical approaches and expertise in health systems, policy, sustainable health and global health she strives to enrich the curriculum and student engagement to equip the students with an understanding of health systems and policy in practice. She has developed three new courses in sustainable health at KI which she also leads. The courses are at undergraduate, master and doctoral level and are the first ever courses on sustainable health at KI. 

    Nina a licensed pharmacist and holds a PhD from Karolinska Institutet (2009). She has extensive experience from the area of health policy and 
    governance as well as evidence-based policy making and implementation of evidence based practice. In 2021 Nina returned to academia and KI after having served at different levels of the Swedish health system including, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), The Swedish Agency for Health and Care Services Analysis, A governmental investigation about implementation of national guidelines in health care, and the Ministry of Health. At the Ministry, Nina had the position of National Focal Point for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and of coordinator within the government offices of matters regarding vaccines against Covid-19.
