Niklas Lidströmer

Dr Niklas Lidströmer is a specialist physician, senior researcher, and advisor with two decades of international experience in AI-driven medical innovation, clinical medicine, and strategic investments. His career spans clinical practice in eight countries, offering a unique global perspective on healthcare systems and digital transformation.

He holds an MSc (2000) and an MD (2002), followed by specialist training and international clinical assignments – including a year as a ship’s doctor during a round-the-world voyage. Fluent in several languages, he is deeply engaged in the translational and educational potential of artificial intelligence in medicine.

Dr Lidströmer received his PhD from the University of Copenhagen with a thesis on an AI-powered, patient-owned global health record (GPOC), and is a CHAI Scholar at the Causality in Healthcare AI Hub (UK).

He is the editor of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (Springer Nature), the most comprehensive reference work in the field, comprising 130 chapters and 1, 858 pages, with a foreword by Professor Eric Topol. He also co-edited Artificial Intelligence in Covid-19 with Professor Yonina C. Eldar, featuring a foreword by MIT and Harvard professor James J. Collins.

He is the founder and Research Director of GlobeDoc Research Hub (globedoc.com), a non-profit research hub developing the Global Patient co-Owned Cloud (GPOC) – a global, patient-owned health record system building on his doctoral thesis.

He has advised organisations such as United Bankers, DXC Technology, and several AI ventures, including FLO and Acorai, where he served as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr Niklas Lidströmer’s book ‘The AI Ideal: AIdealism and the Governance of AI’ has been ranked ‘one of the five best AI books in 2026’ by Five Books.
