About me

  • I am a nurse with a Master in Global Health and a PhD in Global Health, Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Medicine. I have been affiliated with the research group Global Disaster Medicine - Health Needs and Response since 2015. During this time, I have been involved in research, education and training projects, especially looking at improving Emergency Medical Teams’ response following disasters. I have worked in emergencies with Médecins Sans Frontières and the Red Cross Emergency Response Unit.

My doctoral thesis, ‘Feeding in crisis - Exploring the provision of breastfeeding support during humanitarian emergencies’, which I defended in September 2022, focused on the practice and support for optimal infant feeding in humanitarian settings. This doctoral degree was granted by the University of Piemonte (Italy) and was undertaken in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet, as well as Medecins Sans Frontiers Brussels and its Operational Research Unit (LuxOR).

At Global Disaster Medicine - Health Needs and Response, I currently work with IPA Care, a capacity building project in preparedness for earthquakes and health emergencies in the Western Balkans and Türkiye (EU- DG ECHO funded). Parallelly, I work supporting WHO on research and development of Emergency Medical Teams’ response and other medical surge capacities in the wake of disasters. I also supervise students conducting their Master thesis and contribute to other academic tasks.

    Education:
    - BSc Nursing, University of Almeria
    - MSc Global Health, Karolinska Institutet
    - PhD, University of Piemonte Orientale in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Medecins Sans Frontieres
