About me

  • Meike received her bachelor's degree in Biomedicine from Karolinska Institute and a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from ETH Zurich, with internships in the Molly Stevens group (Karolinska Institute), Stricker Lab for Epigenetic Engineering (LMU Munich), David Lane Lab (Karolinska Institute), Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication Lab (ETH Zurich), Macromolecular Engineering Lab (ETH Zurich) and Mooney Lab for Cell and Tissue Engineering (Harvard University). Together, these experiences shaped her strong interests in tissue engineering, biofabrication, organ-on-chip systems and neuroscience.

As a doctoral student in the joint KTH-KI Doctoral Program in Medical Technology, Meike works under the supervision of Prof. Frank Niklaus and Prof. Anna Herland to develop an in vitro model of the neuromuscular junction, with further work on the development of biomaterial patterning, vascularization and iPSC differentiation protocols to realise this goal.

From March 2025 until March 2026, Meike is on exchange at the Takeuchi-Nie Laboratory for Biohybrid Systems Technology at the University of Tokyo, working on a collaboration incorporating vascular knowledge from Sweden with advanced tissue models being developed in Japan.
