About me

  • I am an accomplished researcher with over a decade of experience in cardiometabolic diseases, combining strong expertise in laboratory techniques with proven skills in public speaking, meeting organization, and project coordination. I am a proactive and adaptable team player with a passion for innovation in multicultural environments.

Originally from Parma, Italy, I earned an MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology. In 2008, I moved to Sweden to continue my career with two postdoctoral positions at Karolinska Institutet and AstraZeneca.

Currently, I serve as Research Coordinator at the Cardio Metabolic Unit, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Department of Medicine, Huddinge. I am affiliated with the Medical Unit Endocrinology at Karolinska University Hospital within the Theme Inflammation and Ageing.

In addition to my academic roles, I am co-founder and owner of Lipoprotein Research Stockholm AB, a company established to develop and patent

to develop and patent a novel small molecule with PCSK9 inhibitory effect (Patent JP7430869B2). I also contribute to the scientific community as Council Member for Sweden and Webmaster for the Scandinavian Society for Atherosclerosis Research (SSAR.dk).

    Scientific Awards

    • Best Poster Award from European Atherosclerosis Sociaty (EAS) at EAS2011
    • Travel Grant from European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) for an oral communication at EAS2020
    • Four Travel grants from Hjärt-Lung Fonden for scientific comunications at differnet meetings
    • Travel grant from Italian Society for the study of Atherosclerosis (SISA), for an oral comunication, at XXI Congresso nazionale della Società italiana per lo Studio dell’Aterosclerosi (SISA), Italy

Over recent years, I have developed a strong interest in occupational health and workplace safety, which led to my appointment for two consecutive mandates (2021–2023 and 2023–2026) as Chief Safety Representative for Karolinska Institutet’s activities at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge and at Campus Flemingsberg.

    Personal Interests
Beach volleyball, skiing, sailing, cooking, technology, and house renovation.

Research

  • Lipid and lipoprotein metabolism has been the major focus of my research since my early PhD studies, with a particular emphasis on understanding the mechanisms linking these pathways to atherosclerosis, cardiometabolic disease, and liver disease, and on translating these insights into novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

In recent years, in line with the research pipeline of our group, I have become increasingly engaged in Network Medicine and Systems Medicine, with a strong emphasis on integrating multimodal, high-dimensional real-world healthcare data with advanced experimental and multi-omics research data. These approaches enable the exploration of complex biological interactions and disease mechanisms at a systems level, supporting the development of precision medicine strategies.

Therefore, I am actively collaborating within the Region Stockholm/Karolinska University Hospital team led by Paolo Parini, participating in two major EU Horizon projects, RePo4EU and dAIbetes, as well as the EUROSTAR project CardioTwin.
