Research

  • Mats Lindblad’s research focuses on cancer of the oesophagus and stomach. These cancers often cause severe symptoms, much suffering and early death. The treatments are extensive, complex and costly for society. The aims of Mats Lindblad’s research are to study how to reduce the incidence of oesophageal and stomach cancer, how to identify more early-stage cases at a point when the disease is still curable, and how best to treat patients. Treatment and survival currently depend on sex, age, educational level and location. The regions make different medical assessments, such as tumour stage and recommended therapy. Mats Lindblad believes that it is imperative that quality of care is elevated and offered equally around the country. Mats Lindblad is also process manager at the Stockholm-Gotland Regional Cancer Centre and head of research and development at the National Quality Registry for Oesophageal and Stomach Cancer (NREV).
