Madeleine Nguyen Hoang

Madeleine Hoang is an intern doctor at Karolinska University Hospital. After completing her master's thesis on postoperative complications following plastic reconstruction for sarcoma, she has continued her research at the intersection of plastic surgery and orthopaedics.

 

Her research profile centers on sarcoma surgery at both national and global levels. The overarching aim of her thesis is to evaluate key aspects of sarcoma management and address knowledge gaps in a field characterized by its rarity. In collaboration with the Stockholm Sarcoma Centre and other national sarcoma centres, her work will assess surgical techniques, perioperative care, and related health-economic outcomes. While much of existing literature focuses on Western settings, sarcoma in sub-Saharan Africa remains underexplored, likely due to significant barriers to care. To address this disparity, a descriptive study examining the current state of sarcoma care in Uganda is planned for 2025.
