About me

  • Kyle Mudge is a mechanical and biomedical engineer specialising in the mechanical design of implantable cardiovascular medical devices. He is currently a PhD student in the Intelligent Heart Technology Lab at KTH and the Division of Clinical Physiology at Karolinska Institutet (KI) through the KTH-KI Joint Doctoral Programme.

Kyle's doctoral research focuses on understanding and improving circulation in heart failure patients. His primary research project, Aortic Assist, aims to elucidate the interactions between mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and cardiovascular autoregulation, using this information to develop less invasive MCS devices and more effective clinical guidelines.

  • Before joining KTH and KI, Kyle first trained as an engineer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) (B.S. Mechanical Engineering, B.S. Biomedical Engineering) before pursuing graduate studies at Imperial College London (ICL) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) (M.Sc. Biomedical Engineering, ICL), specialising in cardiovascular implant design. Aside from his academic background, Kyle has held R&

  • D positions at Sports Engineering Inc., Boston Scientific, and Scandinavian Real Heart.

Research

  • Cardiovascular Autoregulation, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Soft Robotics, Biomimetic Design, Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery
