Juulia Marika Lantto

I am a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology since 2023 combining clinical practice with active research in maternal–fetal medicine. I obtained my MD in 2013 (University of Oulu, Finland) and completed my PhD in 2021 (University of Helsinki, Finland), with a research focus on fetal cardiovascular function and monitoring. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at KI while also working clinically in the Karolinska University Hospital. 

My research focuses on fetal cardiovascular function and fetal adaptive responses to hypoxemia and asphyxia, with the aim of improving assessment and monitoring of fetal well-being. My work combines traditional and advanced ultrasound methodologies to investigate fetal hemodynamics, cardiac performance, and circulatory adaptations under physiological and pathological conditions. A key area of interest is the development and validation of novel fetal monitoring techniques, integrating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to enhance diagnostic precision, early detection of fetal compromise, and clinical decision-making in perinatal care.
