Jonas Holtenius
About me
I am an orthopaedic surgeon and researcher at Karolinska Institutet, with a clinical focus on trauma and fracture care. My research centers on polytrauma patients, with the overarching aim of improving outcome prediction and deepening our understanding of how injury patterns and patient characteristics influence prognosis. My doctoral work has focused on epidemiology and outcomes in trauma populations, primarily using data from the Swedish National Trauma Register.
In this context, I have studied musculoskeletal injuries in polytrauma, demonstrating their high prevalence. In parallel, I have evaluated machine learning models for outcome prediction in trauma, showing improved performance compared to traditional approaches.
Looking forward, my research aims to refine definitions of polytrauma, explore subgroup-specific risk patterns, and contribute to more clinically meaningful risk stratification tools that can support decision-making in acute trauma care.
