Joannis Grigoriadis

Dr. Joannis Grigoriadis, DDS, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Manager at the Department of Dental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. He holds specialist competence in prosthetic dentistry and has over 15 years of clinical and academic experience in oral rehabilitation.

Dr. Grigoriadis completed his doctoral degree in Medical Science in 2016 with a thesis focused on oral motor control and sensory feedback during biting and chewing. He has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications, including studies on intraoral manipulation, motor learning, and the role of sensory input in prosthetic function. His research has contributed to a better understanding of how oral motor control adapts in patients with fixed dental prostheses or after sensory loss. His work has been published in Scientific Reports, Clinical Oral Implants Research, Neuroscience, and Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, among others.

He is currently involved in projects developing training paradigms to optimize oral functions in older adults and serves as co-supervisor for two PhD candidates within this domain. His research interests lie at the intersection of prosthodontics, oral motor function, aging, and rehabilitation.

Dr. Grigoriadis is also active in clinical leadership and pedagogical development. He has held multiple clinic director roles within University Dental Clinic at Karolinska Institutet and serves as a senior dental officer. He teaches undergraduate, postgraduate, and specialist students in prosthetic dentistry and oral biomaterials and has supervised both master's and doctoral candidates.

His ongoing research and teaching activities reflect a commitment to integrating scientific evidence into clinical practice, particularly in the domain of functional oral rehabilitation for the aging population.
