About me

  • Henrik Ehrsson is a professor of cognitive neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet, where he began his tenure as an assistant professor in 2008 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at The Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at University College London. Henrik Ehrsson holds a PhD and an MD from Karolinska Institutet,

  • Professor Ehrsson's research focuses on understanding the neural basis of the perception of one's own body. He investigates the cognitive processes and neural mechanisms that allow the brain to distinguish between sensory signals originating from one's own body versus events and objects in the external environment, and the formation of a coherent multisensory experience of one's physical self. This research has significant implications for advancing neuro-prosthetics and avatar embodiment in virtual reality technologies, as well as for research into neuropsychiatric and psychiatric disorders with disturbances in bodily awareness and sense of self.

Henrik Ehrsson has published over 130 peer-reviewed scientific articles in leading international scientific journals, including publications in Science, Neuron, and Nature Communications. His work has been influential, with over 13, 200 citations and an H-index of 58 (as of April 2024). Professor Ehrsson has been honored with several awards, including the Distinguished Professor Grant from the Swedish Research Council, the Göran Gustafson Prize in Medicine awarded by the Royal Academy of Sweden, and two European Research Council grants.
